If you have never seen a fibroblast cell you should check it out. They are beautiful. They look like peacocks.
I have no idea where they are from or what they do.
They are just pretty.
And that…should tell you about where my mind is today…
☺
Yesterday was this strange and intense rollercoaster. I think coming off the ‘Rihanna’ post and moving right into ‘vaccines of gold’ fed the whole intensity. I got a slew of comments about the whole “who gets it first” issue with the H1N1 vaccine. It all boiled down to just about everyone agreeing that the wrong people and agencies (or companies) were being left to make decisions about something that they were ill prepared for.
There is a lot of anger floating around about it. There is just a lot of anger and frustration in general as people watch all the touting of the recession being over and things starting to upswing and the only evidence of that is a fickle stock market. I think the fact that the past year has educated many people on the reality that Wall Street is nothing but a well dressed casino and yet we have lived our lives and run our government as if it were a reliable and predictable influence is contributing to this.
Our economy is complicated. Over 60% of our economy is dependent on consumer spending, which it has no longer become as important to understand how this came to be as it is on how to change our economy to something that is not dependent on whim.
We no longer really make things. Or invent things or do anything but consume things. We are gaining a bit in being leaders in the Service industry but we have lost our status as innovative leaders. Even the computer industry is slipping away and in 5 years I doubt any US based technological company will be doing more than niche development.
How to you go about getting back to participating in a world economy as more than a wallet and an open mouth? It takes a lot. It takes a lot of individuals deciding that what they dream of doing is worth every risk to make it happen. But for decades we have been building a culture based in the myths of “oh no you can’t.” Which is one of the reasons that Obama’s catch phrase grabbed so many people. We know we can, we’ve just lost the belief that we are enough to make it happen.
We wait on other people’s approval, money or interest.
But…I bet you can fill in the blank to what I say to that.
I am in the process of doing an updated rewrite of “Eat not the Heart” in preparation for writing the second book in the season. I have made some changes, not in the content (except a heck of a look of proof reading and re-writing since I have become a better writer over the year) but in naming the concept.
“Kore” (pronounced Kor-ay)
You might recognize that name. It is the name of a very old incarnation of the Goddess of Creativity.
But I had to put all of that aside and wait and live what happens after you do the things outlined in the first book. Some of it was not what I expected. Amazing how you can educate yourself.
Ok…I made a choice to stay up to 3am. My body got me up at 5:30 and I need profound amounts of coffee.
I am off to make the first payment on the truck and I have decided that I will walk the 3 miles there. Because it is cold, because it is beautiful and because I am beginning to live the kind of life where I can make decisions about that.
Sometime later I will have to tell you the tale of playing “secret agent” with a friend who almost ran out of gas, sending me pounding the street pavements with a gallon of gas in my back pack and texting madly as we tried to find each other. Most of mine consisting of “For God’s sake! Don’t get on the highway!” Cause I could just see myself hoofing it up the on ramp.
